AAYA Puppet Making Activity

Recently at the Fox Trail Memory Care Center at Paramus, AAYA volunteers have made paper bag hand puppets for the residents. Across all locations, volunteers in the AAYA 100+ Hour summer program have tried different ways to engage residents, whether through arts and crafts, music, or games. Our volunteers at Paramus found great success in making paper bag hand puppets as residents were not only engaged, but also had a great time in creating storylines. Activities like making puppets are great for residents with dementia due to its ability to both engage residents and create interactions. These stimulating activities help residents feel relaxed and safe, and allows them to recall memories and feel positive emotions. It is important for those living with dementia to be able to not only express themselves, but also relive their memories through different experiences. We are grateful for all of our AAYA volunteers who are working hard to create activities that create a better day for these residents.
