AAYA Summer Volunteering Program at Fox Trail Senior Center
By: Jack Dong
As the summer nears, AAYA is excited to announce their biggest event yet. In partnership with the Fox Trail Senior Center, an organization caring for those with memory problems and cognitive challenges, AAYA volunteers will engage in various tasks to support the elderly and provide a positive experience. Moreover, volunteers can pick from a variety of interests and specialize in different dimensions of wellness such as social, emotional, and environmental.
This event will start on July 1st and end on August 2nd at 10 participating locations. These locations include Mahwah, Montville, Greenbrook, South River, Princeton, Paramus, Cresskill, Park Ridge, Hillsdale, and Ramsey. Students from schools all over and from various ages are joining, with 21 from Cresskill, 19 from Princeton, 10 from Paramus, and 9 students spread out among the other locations. Volunteers are given a flexible schedule and can choose their own hours each day of the week. By the end of this program, some volunteers may be eligible for the Gold Presidential Volunteer Service Award for dedicating more than 100 hours of service. As of April 28th, there are 59 sign ups and with sign ups ending May 25th, AAYA hopes to reach out to more students and exceed their goal of 100 volunteers. More information is available on our website (asianamericanyouthalliance.org) under the “Summer Program'' page.
